J.D. Durbin Picked Up By Diamondbacks

After the Minnesota Twins finally parted ways with once young and promising pitcher J.D. Durbin, the self-proclaimed "Real Deal" was claimed off waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday.

The hard-throwing, madcap righty was a second-round draft pick in 2000, but has struggled with arm problems over the past couple of seasons. He missed the second half of last season with an injury to his right biceps and went 0-2 with a 12.38 ERA in eight innings of relief this spring.

The 25-year-old's minor-league options were all used up, so the Twins had to put him on waivers before sending him down.

Minnesota also reassigned my favorite outfielder, Josh Rabe, to minor league camp, beginning the season with three catchers and 11 pitchers on the 25-man roster.

The club decided to keep their third catcher Chris Heintz, in order to give their All-Star batting champ backstop, Joe Mauer, more at-bats in the designated hitter's spot. Early-on in the season, this should help him recover from the stress reaction in his right leg.
