Manny Ramirez is scheduled to get an MRI on his injured right hamstring today, a day off for his Los Angeles Dodgers.
The wacky left fielder, who spent 15 days on the disabled list from April 23 until May 8, hurt himself in the first inning of Tuesday night's 4-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants rounding second. He stopped and dashed back to the bag, his foot making contact with shortstop Edgar Renteria's glove, which made the ball pop out for a safe call.
Anyway, this kind of sucks for the Dodgers, since Manny had hit safely in 10 of his last eleven games, sporting a .460 average with 11 RBI over his past 15 games. On top of that, Los Angeles is 13-15 when he's out of the starting lineup this season. Ouch.
However, manager Joe Torre is optimistic:
It doesn’t seem too bad. It’s low, a little bit below the hamstring and not where he hurt it more seriously before. The skipper also says he plans on waiting for the official diagnosis before making any decisions on whether or not to send him to the DL, even though he has already met with general manager Ned Colletti to talk over their options. Get well soon, Manny!
Also, feel free to caption the above picture. When I looked more closely at the Giants fans, I almost died laughing.
P.S. Manny is making the generous donation of a sah-weet Porsche (a 1994 red 911 Turbo 3.6 Coupe to be exact) to an online auction benefitting ThinkCure!, the Dodgers' charity, and Maryvale, a local residential placement home for girls.
At least he's not putting it on eBay.
Speaking of the Dodgers, ?
