New York police said Girardi pulled over on the side of the road to help a distressed woman who had lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a wall around 2:30am on a Westchester County parkway. He called 911 and reported the car as a mangled mess, and refrained from asking the lady if she realized who he was.
"She had no idea who I was," Girardi said. "I think the important thing is, you know, obviously there’s a lot of joy in what we do, but we can’t forget to be human beings where we help others out. I think that’s the most important thing we can do in life."The woman, likely a Mets fan, is going to be fine after suffering only some minor scrapes and bruises.
The officer on the scene, Kathleen Cristiano, recognized the Yanks manager and said that meeting him "was totally surreal."
