Jake Peavy is a Big Faker
Just kidding. Kinda.
Jake Peavy, who doesn't much care for pitching in a San Diego uni, will be out of commission for at least a month now after hurting his ankle. This means we might not see any action from the Padres ace until after the All-Star break.
After an MRI showed a torn tendon in his right ankle, Peavy (6-6, 3.97 ERA, 92 K) was scratched from Saturday’s start against the Los Angeles Angels. Now the 2007 NL Cy Young winner is stuck lugging around a walking boot and will continue to do so for approximately the next four weeks. He'll need to be re-evaluated in a couple weeks before the club can determine how much time he'll actually miss.
I bet the White Sox are pretty pumped about now over the memory of Peavy using his no-trade powers against them. The Padres on the other hand? Not happy.
Though Peavy won't officially land on the disabled list until Saturday, the team has decided who will start in his place tomorrow: right-handed rookie Josh Geer. This could be your big shot, buddy. Make it work!
