Ump Bump!

Everyone knows about the . For whatever reason, umpire Brian Runge disregarded that rule on Tuesday when he bumped spankin' new New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel prior to ejecting him. Runge was suspended Thursday for one game, a grounding he will serve immediately.

Manuel along with Carlos Beltran, who took two called strikes before discussing the matter with Runge, were fined by the commissioner's office for arguing ball and strikes. Another no-no.

Whatever the penalty, Manuel had to step in to take the heat off of his All-Star center fielder, and so we commend him.
