Clean Slate for Brad Lidge

Brad LidgeBrad Lidge is north-bound for the City of Brotherly Love after a five-player deal worked out Wednesday night sends him, along with infielder Eric Bruntlett, to the Philadelphia Phillies for outfielder Michael Bourn, righty Geoff Geary and minor league third baseman Mike Costanzo.

This acquisition will allow the NL East champs to move Brett Myers back into the starting rotation behind ace Cole Hamels, after Myers spent the better part of 2007 in the closer role.

Lidge held opposing hitters to .218 this season, striking out an average of 11.8 batters per nine innings, before having surgery on October 1st to repair torn cartilage in his right knee. He hopes to be ready to go for the start of spring training.

People may not realize this guy was a beast for most of the second half of this season.

Some may write him off because of his past iffyness, but I think the Phils may have gotten a steal here.
