You're Busted Pal! (updated)

Deadspin commenter Tuffy makes an interesting point during their Game 7 Live Blog: "Do we have to root for the Red Sox so God doesn't have to choose between His Rockies and Paul Byrd?"

Update: According to FoxSports.com, Byrd has admitted to taking HGH under a doctor's care to treat a tumor on his pituitary gland.

"I have not taken any hormone apart from a doctor's care and supervision," Byrd said.
And that's accurate because... Byrd said so.

According to the law enforcement source who spoke with the San Francisco newspaper on the condition of anonymity, two of Byrd's prescriptions for HGH were not written by a physician.

During his press conference just hours before Game 7 Sunday night, Byrd failed to give any details on his pituitary gland condition and why he needed to take the hormone for over 2 years.

A devout Christian, he did say that he managed to brave the temptation of cheating by taking only the prescribed dosage.

Original Story: Just 5 days after pitching the Cleveland Indians to a Game 4 victory over the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS, Paul Byrd has been outed in a timely manner by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Byrd, who will turn 37 this December, purchased close to $25,000 worth of human growth hormone between August 2002 and January 2005 from the Palm Beach Rejuvenation Center, a Florida anti-aging clinic.

According to his credit card statements, he bought roughly 1,000 vials of HGH and hundreds of syringes... but no Botox. There seems to be a connection between his lower ERA in 2002 and his first visit to the cheater pharmacy, but I just can't seem to put my finger on it.

However, since HGH was not a banned substance while Byrd was still receiving shipments, he didn't break any MLB rules.

Byrd, who is 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA this postseason, declined to comment.

Looks like someone at the Chron is a Sox fan! Any chance this will be a big enough distraction to give Cleveland a loss?
