After recovering from his October 5th rotator cuff surgery, Pedro Martinez is finally ready to go.
The New York Mets veteran righty will make his long-awaited season debut Monday against the Cincinnati Reds at The Great American Ball Park.
After four slow rehab starts, Pedro breezed through a 53-pitch bullpen session Friday night.
His activation couldn't have come at a better time, as right-hander Orlando Hernandez was roughed up in Thursday's 11-10 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. El Duque was given a cortisone shot for the sore tendon in his right foot and his status is day-to-day.
Coming off the losing end of a four-game sweep by Philadelphia and an 8-game losing streak, the Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 5-1 Saturday afternoon, giving them a lead of just 2.5 games in the NL East on the surging Phillies, who have yet to play this evening.
