Brian McCann may have allowed a run to score with a passed ball, but one inning later, he smoked the go-ahead, three-run double in a seven-run eighth inning. The result? The Atlanta Braves (30-23) handed the slumping Milwaukee Brewers (29-24) their seventh loss in eight games.
Thinking his team was going to lose on a wild pitch, Tim Hudson (6-3, 2.77 ERA) threw his glove on the dugout bench and kicked some stuff when he came in after the inning... which is why he's about to make out with McCann in that photo. Hudson allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings.
My buddy Chipper Jones missed his seventh game in a row as a result of a cortisone shot in his right hand, so let's hope he gets better soon.
Milwaukee starter Dave Bush (3-5, 5.64 ERA) pitched seven good innings, giving up one run on six hits and striking out six. Monster first baseman Prince Fielder hit a solo shot for the Brewers and Ryan Braun drove in the other run.
More importantly, the Brew Crew have lost 14 of 19 following a roaring 24-10 start. The NL Central leader has dropped six consecutive series, but somehow still lead their division by 5.5 games. So, why the slump?
