Mets' Green Makes First Trip To DL

Shawn Green has landed on the DL with a broken foot for the first time in his major league career.
The New York Mets placed Shawn Green on the 15-day disabled list today with a broken right foot, marking the very first time in the outfielder's 15-year big league career he has landed on the DL.

Green, 34, fouled a ball off of his foot on Friday and the move was made retroactive to Saturday. Green is hitting .314 with five home runs and 22 RBIs this season and is expected to be able to begin running again in roughly 10 days.

Ben JohnsonRelated, New York recalled outfielder Ben Johnson from the AAA New Orleans Zephyrs for tonight's game against the San Francisco Giants. Outfielders Carlos Gomez and Moises Alou along with infielder Jose Valentin were examined by team physicians.

Gomez has a slight strain in his left hamstring and Alou, who is eligible to come off the disabled list, is day to day because of a strained left quadriceps. Valentin, sidelined since April 29th with a partially torn ligament in his right knee, was cleared to start playing in a brace.

That blows my mind that Green has never ever been on the DL in over 14 years. Crazy.
